First I want to say congratulations on completing a great spring concert!!  It has been a pleasure to work with you this semester!

Just a reminder,

Rookie Camp starts this afternoon at the High School from 3:15 to 5.  All auxiliary members and 1st & 2nd year marchers must attend.

Also, our mandatory PRIDE Orientation meeting is tonight at 7pm in the SHS Bandroom.

SHS students will wear their concert uniform.  RMS students in Jazz Band are asked to wear “Concert Black”.

Admission is $5 per person or $20 per family.  Kids 12 and under are $2.  Remember, the Spring Concert is a large portion of students’ final grade.  All students are required to attend.

This is just one more reminder that our annual Spring Concert is this Sunday, May 19^th!  The concert will begin at 3pm in the SHS Biddle Auditorium.  RMS students are asked to wear “Sunday Best” attire.  (No blue jeans or pants with holes.  Must be dress code appropriate)

In appreciation of all your hard work over the past 4 years we will be taking a trip just with you Friday, May 17^th to Atlanta, Georgia to watch the Atlanta Braves play the Detroit Lions.

This trip is a reward for all of your hard work and dedication to The PRIDE.  As such, the Band is covering most of the cost for this event; however, we are asking for  a small fee of $15 per senior attending to help secure a bus.

When:

Friday, May 17^th (Afterschool)

Where:

Turner Field Atlanta, GA

What to Bring:

Comfortable clothes (school dress code DOES apply) & money for any souvenirs or food at the game.   We will eat together as a group after the game at the Varsity on Williams Street.  Please allow $10 or $12 for dinner.

If you are interested in attending, please return this form to the band office by Tuesday, 5/14.  If Mr. Weaver is still at RMS Please put the money and form in a marked envelope in the box outside his office.

Also note, that if you paid to go to Panama City Beach with the band and still have money in your trip account, you can request for that money to cover the cost of the Atlanta Trip and receive a refund for your remaining balance.  Seniors who do not request a refund for PCB  before the end of school it will be considered a donation.

2013 JSU Honor Band Information

Congratulations! Making the 2013 JSU Honor Band is an honor that represents a lot of hard work and dedication. We had 24 students to make the 2013 JSU Band this year!!

Where:

Mason Hall, Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL. 

When:

We will leave by bus from Southside High School at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 9^th.  RMS students will be picked up from the middle school around 12:30 PM.  Please bring your luggage to school on Thursday.  You can leave it locked up in the Bandroom in the morning.

What to Bring:

Bed linens or a sleeping bag and pillow, toiletry items, towels, comfortable clothes, a MUSIC STAND (very important), and of course your instrument.  Percussionists should bring snare sticks, mallets, and timpani sticks.

Friday May 10th

Saturday May 11th

Pick Up

Parents may pick up their student after the concert on Saturday, May 11.  Students will be given an Honor Band T Shirt to wear to the concert.  No Admission will be charged.

Lodgings:

University Housing – JSU (on campus dormitories)

Important Information

• Our performance time block is from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. Play for any available judge.
• Students should dress nicely (blue jeans are ok as long as they are clean and free of holes).  Jazz band students will wear concert black. (Like Wednesday)  
• Students should have a copy of their performance music for the judge.  Each measure should be numbered.
• Please have a pencil or pen as well to fill out your judge sheet.
• Parents can stand outside the door as a student performs, but cannot enter the room.
• Judges sheets and medals will be picked up and ordered at the end of the event by Mr. Weaver

Friday, May 3^rd, students wishing to practice their solos, duets, trios, etc. can practice in the Bandroom from 3:15-4:30.

Travel Information

We will take a bus to Solo and Ensemble but it is ok for parents to transport their own student(s). Parents should notify Mr. Weaver in writing by Friday, May 3rd if they wish to do this. Students can be checked out after Solo and Ensemble if they do not wish to ride the bus back. The parent must sign the student out with Mr. Weaver before leaving. 

Report Time: 8:30am with music & instrument @ SHS

Departure: 9:00am

Lunch at Oxford Mall: 11:30 – 12:30pm  (Please allow $10 for lunch)

Arrive back to SHS: 1:30pm  Please ready to pick your child up.
